We always knew that The Mongol Rally was going to be filled with lots of obstacles. Murphy’s Law definitely applies with this trip, but it’s just one of those things that we have to overcome! No, our car hasn’t already broken down, it’s something a little more personal. One of our team mates has had to drop out. 🙁
Sadly because of work commitments, for the world of comics is a crazy business, Cara has had to leave The Nerdventurists. We know it wasn’t an easy decision for her to make, but we wish her the very best professionally and know that she will be with us in spirit. Cara will still be doing some things for us, but with her leaving, it did leave us with an empty little spot on our car.
Thankfully we didn’t have to fret long. While in Jordan, Scott met a rather enthusiastic Dutch girl who seemed very keen on the idea of driving across Europe and Asia with three strangers.
We have lost a Cara, but we have gained a Maartje! And now our All Amurrrrican team has an added Dutch flair.
Before she hit the road she was managing projects in IT, owned a house, she was driving a car, had a boyfriend and a “serious” life… She joined the rat race, conformed to society’s expectations, was 28-years-old, and gave it all up to travel the world.
For 3+ years she has been travelling through and living in different countries. Last year she became a PADI dive instructor on Utila, a Caribbean island which she also calls home, like a lot of places where she’s been. Home is where her backpack is! Maartje is a girl who is curious and looks beyond what is right in front of her. She takes risks, a lot of risks. She gets crazy, really crazy…. And is just always in for a good time!
Welcome to The Nerdventurists, Maartje!
