So who are The Nerdventurists? We’re three girls who happen to be mega nerds and epic travelers. We hum the Doctor Who theme while playing Assassin’s Creed and Dragon Age. We go to musicals around the world, draw and read comic books, attend and panel at conventions, and interact with the geek community online and beyond. We’re out to prove that not only can dweeby ladies have adventures out in the wide world, but that not all geeks hide away in basements 24/7 (not that there’s anything wrong with that, basements are cozy).

We’re celebrating geekdom, literature, and adventure as The Nerdventurists.  But who are we? Meet the crazy ladies who are hitting the road…

… is a radio jockey, podcaster, and freelance journalist with a travel addiction and a fondness for cranberry juice. She’s currently based in the USA.

She’s an ardent traveler and has been to 49 countries and has no plans to stop.  She taught English in a small fishing city (Yaizu) in Japan for a year and volunteered on an archaeological dig on an Iron Age site (Tel Gezer) in Israel. She’s an author, a dreamer, and has crazy curly ginger hair.

… is a native Californian who will likely die surrounded by books. In 2003 she went to her first San Diego Comic-Con and has never missed a year since. Ask anyone and they can attest that the nerd culture has deeply been a part of her life since childhood (former Duck Hunt master). A proud military brat who’s lived all over the place, who decided to uproot herself and move to London to earn her BA in Graphic Design at LCC. She’s only traveled a bit around Europe and her home country, but she’s very keen to travel more and earn more stamps on her passport. She’s a podcaster and graphic designer for The Baker Street Babes which feeds into her love for Sherlock Holmes.

She enjoys hosting fan groups, going to as many comic and anime conventions as possible, and pulling people into the nerdy culture. She feels it’s time to leave her computer behind and go explore a part of the world she’s never seen and make the trip of a lifetime. She also likes to change the colour of her hair on a semi-monthly basis. It’s always changing and always an unnatural colour.

Sometimes other people join us on adventures. You can learn about these crazy peeps below!

ScottScott Joseph is a travel guru and mustache aficionado. After spending most of his life in metro Detroit, he is now a certified world traveler having recently earned his advanced scuba certification in Honduras, traveling in Barcelona, acting as director for a summer camp in France, visiting Sri Lanka and India where he took a yoga teaching course, and finally trekking up to Everest Base Camp. And that was all in one summer.

Scott is currently on a solo journey around the world, while writing and photographing it all on his Travelstache blog. A world traveler indeed, Scott’s greatest passion is sharing his experiences and knowledge with teenagers. He has worked as trip leader and logistics director for an adventure travel company for teens. He has now been to over 40 countries on 6 continents and has no plans of slowing down.

He also has a great mustache.

maartjesq Maartje is a full time traveler. She loves food, especially fried chicken, and is always up for an adventure.

Before she hit the road she was managing projects in IT, owned a house, she was driving a car, had a boyfriend and a “serious” life… She joined the rat race, conformed to society’s expectations, was 28-years-old, and gave it all up to travel the world.

For 3+ years she has been travelling through and living in different countries. Last year she became a PADI dive instructor on Utila, a Caribbean island which she also calls home, like a lot of places where she’s been. Home is where her backpack is! Maartje is a girl who is curious and looks beyond what is right in front of her. She takes risks, a lot of risks. She gets crazy, really crazy…. And is just always in for a good time!
